We’re licensed by the state to inspect vehicles and prohibited from performing repairs. Any repairs — smog-related or not.
That’s not a limitation we work around. It’s the entire business model, and it’s the reason to come here.
Every station that can also fix your car has a financial interest in finding something wrong with it. That doesn’t make them dishonest — most aren’t — but the incentive is there, sitting in the room, every time they run a test.
We can’t sell you a repair. There is nothing we could find that would make us money. So when we tell you your vehicle passed, or tell you exactly why it didn’t, that’s the only thing we have to offer you.
There’s a practical consequence too: only test-only stations can certify a gross polluter after repair. If your vehicle was flagged, a test-and-repair station can start the job but can’t finish it.
How we work
Four things that make a visit easy
No appointments
Drive up during business hours. We don’t run a booking system, and you don’t need to plan around one.
Free pretest
We check before the official test. A submitted failure is permanent — so if something’s going to fail you, you hear it first, off the record, with no fee.
Electronic filing
Your certificate goes to the DMV the moment you pass. Most people renew online before they’ve left the lot.
One posted price
$41.75 plus the $8.25 state certificate. It’s on every page of this site because there’s nothing to negotiate.
What we can’t test
Some vehicles are outside the smog check program entirely:
- Gasoline vehicles from model year 1975 and older
- Fully electric vehicles (hybrids are not exempt — they’re tested like any gasoline car)
- Motorcycles and trailers
- Diesels from 1997 and earlier
- Diesel or natural gas vehicles rated over 14,000 lbs GVWR

If something goes wrong
Talk to us first. Most complaints turn out to be a misunderstanding about what the test found, and we’d rather explain it properly than have you leave confused.
If we can’t resolve it, the Bureau of Automotive Repair regulates every licensed smog station in California and takes consumer complaints directly at bar.ca.gov. That oversight applies to us like it applies to everyone, and we’d rather point you to it than have you go looking.

What does test-only mean for me?
It means we can’t sell you a repair — the state licenses us to inspect and prohibits us from repairing. Every station that can also fix your car has a reason to want it to fail. We don’t. That’s the whole point of coming here.
What vehicles can't you test?
Vehicles outside the smog program: motorcycles, trailers, fully electric vehicles, gasoline vehicles from 1975 and older, diesels from 1997 or earlier, and any diesel or natural gas vehicle over 14,000 lbs GVWR. Hybrids are not on this list — they’re tested like any gasoline car.
